A AE \u00e9 composta por quase 90 associa\u00e7\u00f5es membros em 38 pa\u00edses (incluindo 26 Estados-Membros) e representa cerca de 7 milh\u00f5es de pessoas autistas e suas fam\u00edlias em toda a Europa. Os activistas e as fam\u00edlias desempenham um papel central na organiza\u00e7\u00e3o. A AE \u00e9 reconhecida pelas institui\u00e7\u00f5es europeias como a principal rede representativa das pessoas autistas e das suas fam\u00edlias na Europa. O trabalho da AE baseia-se nos princ\u00edpios da Conven\u00e7\u00e3o das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas sobre os Direitos das Pessoas com Defici\u00eancia (UN CRPD).\u00a0<\/p><p>Os principais objectivos da AE s\u00e3o:\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Assegurar a plena implementa\u00e7\u00e3o e o respeito dos direitos e a participa\u00e7\u00e3o efetiva das pessoas com defici\u00eancia;<\/li><li>Promover uma abordagem do autismo baseada nos direitos e na evid\u00eancia, trabalhando em conjunto com as pessoas autistas, suas fam\u00edlias, profissionais e decisores pol\u00edticos;\u00a0<\/li><li>Encourage research on autism, prevalence studies and exchange of best<br \/>Incentivar a investiga\u00e7\u00e3o sobre o autismo, estudos de preval\u00eancia e interc\u00e2mbio de melhores pr\u00e1ticas e interven\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas em provas para crian\u00e7as autistas, bem como apoio e habilita\u00e7\u00e3o de servi\u00e7os para adultos;\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>AE trabalha com os seus membros para:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Defender os direitos das pessoas autistas perante as institui\u00e7\u00f5es europeias;\u00a0<\/li><li>Monitorizar as legisla\u00e7\u00f5es e pol\u00edticas europeias;\u00a0<\/li><li>Promover a plena implementa\u00e7\u00e3o da CRPD das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas, incluindo o acesso \u00e0 educa\u00e7\u00e3o, forma\u00e7\u00e3o e emprego, vida independente, servi\u00e7os m\u00e9dicos e sociais acess\u00edveis, diagn\u00f3stico profissional, interven\u00e7\u00e3o precoce, prote\u00e7\u00e3o contra a discrimina\u00e7\u00e3o e maior inclus\u00e3o social;\u00a0<\/li><li>Promover o interc\u00e2mbio de informa\u00e7\u00f5es, boas pr\u00e1ticas e experi\u00eancias no dom\u00ednio do autismo;\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Promover a
