The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) is committed to rendering Maltese society an inclusive one, in a way that persons with disability reach their full potential in all aspects of life, enjoying a high quality of life thanks to equal opportunities. In fulfilling this mission, CRPD works in order to eliminate anyform of direct or indirect social discrimination against persons with disability and their families, while providing them with the necessary assistance and support. The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) has 42 individuals as staff members.
Furthermore, the Commission has worked to create the first CRPD strategy. This gave more direction and structure to the Commission’s work, making it easier to then raise awareness about it. A task form composed of academics, professionals and disabled people has been set up to compile the CRPD strategy.
To ensure that the disability sector is well represented in the vision for CRPD, the Commissioner met with DPO’s and NGO’s, as well as key stakeholders. The strategy will be based on the outcomes of these meetings, further research undertaken by the Commission in collaboration with external stakeholders and the contribution of staff members. This is now available for implementation with the name ‘Freedom to live’ – Malta 2021-2030 National Strategy on the Rights of Disabled Persons.
